Psychology Consultations 100% Online
Online family therapy offers a professional and confidential setting where families meet with a specialized therapist to understand what is happening and find healthier ways to relate to each other.
Impact of Psychology
They are satisfied with online therapy and say it has been helpful in dealing with their emotional challenges.
Of the teenagers who underwent online therapy for social anxiety, none of them showed symptoms at the end of treatment.
Patients experience clinically significant reductions in symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress after 8- to 12-week programs.
Family Therapy
It makes sense to consider family therapy when conflicts at home are frequent and intense, when there are persistent difficulties in the relationship between parents and children, siblings who are constantly at odds, or when a family member presents emotional or behavioral problems that affect the functioning of everyone. It is also indicated in situations of separation or divorce, family reunification (reconstituted families), chronic or disabling illness of one of the members, bereavement, significant changes (moving to a new city or country, returning home, children leaving home or moving out), and moments when the family feels that they "can no longer talk" without arguing.
In many cases, families seek therapy because, despite individual efforts, there's a feeling that they always return to the same themes, the same arguments, and the same old wounds. Online family therapy helps break this cycle by working with everyone at the same time, instead of waiting for just one person to change alone.
Family therapy sessions at DaTerapia take place via video call and last approximately 50 minutes. Depending on the family's structure and the reason for the request, parents, children, siblings, stepparents, or other significant family members may be present. At the outset, the therapist clarifies who will be part of the process, how the sessions will proceed, and the basic rules of respect and confidentiality.
The first session is usually dedicated to listening to each person's story, understanding how the family is organized, what difficulties each person is experiencing, and what they expect from therapy. The therapist helps to bring these perspectives together within a common framework, where central themes can be identified, such as communication, rules, loyalties, secrets, alliances, expectations, and old, unresolved pains.
In subsequent sessions, the focus shifts to concrete everyday situations: episodes of conflict, moments of estrangement, situations where someone feels wronged or excluded, moments of overload or great worry. The family therapist intervenes to translate what is being said, facilitate clearer expression for each person, reduce automatic accusations and defenses, and support the construction of new agreements.
At times, it may be helpful to hold sessions with subgroups (for example, only parents, only siblings, or one of the individuals with the therapist), always in a transparent and well-articulated manner with a common goal in mind.

How can we help?
View the family as an interconnected system, where what happens to one member affects everyone. The focus is on communication patterns, implicit rules, roles, and loyalties across generations. It helps to make these dynamics visible and to create more flexible and healthy forms of relationship.
It primarily works on the emotional level of interactions: fears, connection needs, old wounds, and moments when someone feels rejected or unappreciated. It helps families break free from cycles of criticism/defense or attack/withdrawal, promoting clearer emotional messages and more confident responses among members.
It focuses on the "structure" of the family: boundaries between generations, alliances, hierarchies, and the roles of each member. It seeks to reinforce a clearer and more functional organization (for example, returning decisions to adults, reducing triangulations with children) and uses targeted interventions and practices to change patterns that have been repeated for years.
Frequently Asked Questions
It is relatively common for someone to be more resistant. The therapist helps the family understand what is behind this resistance (fear of being blamed, tiredness, disbelief) and, whenever possible, tries to include this person gradually. When this is not feasible, the work can begin with whoever is available, being aware that the absence of some members may limit the type of change that is possible.
